In August 2025, the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara-on-the-Lake) Community Oriented Response and Engagement (CORE) Unit conducted an anti-shoplifting initiative in partnership with local retailers at a plaza in Niagara Falls.
Over a two-day enforcement period, CORE officers arrested six individuals for shoplifting offences resulting in 19 criminal charges. Working collaboratively with retail loss prevention officers, this project aimed to deter retail theft, educate the public, and hold accountable those responsible for thefts and frauds in commercial settings.
During the initiative, 2 District CORE members identified a total of $3,000.00 in stolen merchandise, of which $570.00 was recovered and returned to retail partners in saleable condition.
Members of the 2 District CORE Unit will be continuing this initiative to deter retail theft. Community members wishing to have retail theft addressed are asked to contact officers at 905-688-4111, option #3, extension #1009715.
