On Wednesday, October 29, 2025, Officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 6 District (Port Colborne/Wainfleet) received information of a possible weapons incident.
The initial call for service brought police to an address on Fares Street. Members of Emergency Task Unit (ETU) assisted with the initial response and located a deceased adult male within the Fares Street residence. Acting on information at the scene, officers identified a second address on Mitchell Street, believed to be a residence where a possible armed suspect had fled. That residence was eventually cleared by police for the outstanding suspect.
Out of an abundance of caution, residents were asked to remain in their homes and local schools were asked to hold and secure while the initial investigation was conducted.
27-year-old Brady NEFF of Port Colborne was identified as a suspect in this weapons incident. NEFF was not located at either of the two involved addresses and a continued police presence remained in Port Colborne while NEFF remained at large.
Investigation then led police to an area on the west side of the canal near Clarence Street. As a result of the change in location, the hold and secure orders at Port Colborne schools were lifted.
At approximately 3:00 PM, police located NEFF in the area of Killaly Street East and Welland Street in Port Colborne, and he was subsequently arrested. Police would like to thank the public for their assistance.
NEFF remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing on Thursday, October 29, 2025, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street in St. Catharines.
The Homicide Unit has taken carriage of the investigation, and further information will be released as it becomes available.
