The Ontario government has set new capacity limits at fitness and recreational facilities.
These businesses, as of Aug. 15, can now allow up to 50 patrons in each indoor sport or fitness room as long as it can accommodate physical distancing measures. The new rules are designed to make it easier for these gyms, fitness centres and related businesses to reopen without hindering the safety of workers and customers. However, municipalities, businesses, and facilities can choose to implement different capacity limits and safety measures as they see fit.
“Many of our gyms and fitness centers are owned and operated by small business owners and they are struggling,” said Premier Ford. “To help them get back on their feet and hire back staff, we are making these changes so they can serve more people. I continue to urge everyone to follow the strict public health protocols to ensure everyone can have a safe workout.”
The Ontario government also showed their support for amateur sports leagues by investing $8 million through the Ontario Amateur Sport Fund. Many competitions and training centres closed due to COVID-19.
The funding will help the leagues, programs, and competitions that were affected get back on their feet and promote health and wellness across the province.
