Ontario has reported 125 cases of COVID-19 today and four new deaths. That’s a dramatic uptick over recent daily reports which have largely been below 100 cases per day.
The new daily report is the highest number of new daily infections in a month.
The new cases are localized infections: 17 cases in Peel, 27 in Toronto and 28 in Windsor-Essex.
The new cases are not a province-wide trend. Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott reports that 27 of 34 public health units in the province reported five or less new cases, with 16 health units have reporting no new cases.
Provincial labs processed 23,000 tests in the last 24 hours.
Also reported: 90 Ontario residents recovered from infection in the past 24 hours. The number of remaining active cases in the province is at 951, up 31.
There are 41 people being treated for COVID-19 in Ontario hospitals. Fifteen of those are in intensive care. Eleven are on a ventilator.
In Niagara Region, there are new cases reported today. The region has seen 916 cases, 817 of which have been resolved. There are 35 active cases in the region
