Niagara Region Public Health confirmed two new COVID-19 cases over the weekend – two cases on Saturday and 0 cases on Sunday. There is one new case today.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara region is now at 938. Of those cases, there are 21 active cases and two active outbreaks. There are no new deaths reported this week.
The Niagara region has seen the number of weekly cases drop over the last couple of weeks. This past week, there were only eight new confirmed cases, and the week before that, there were 13 new confirmed cases.
Earlier this month and for most of the month of July, the region saw 20 to almost 40 new weekly cases and daily case numbers ranged from 0 to 21. Weekly cases have now remained below 20 for two weeks straight and daily case numbers above five have not been reported since Aug. 19.
Province-wide in Ontario, there were 260 cases reported over the weekend, 148 on Saturday, and 112 on Sunday. There are 114 new cases reported today.
Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliot said in a tweet that 30 of 34 public health units reported five or fewer cases, with 19 reporting no new cases.
There was one new Ontario COVID-19 death reported on Sunday and one new death reported today. There were no new deaths on Saturday.
