COVID-19 cases continue to grow in Ontario, with the government reporting 478 new infections today. That’s more reported on any day since May 2.
Niagara region, meanwhile reported seven new cases, raising the total cases ever recorded in the region to 1,002. There were three new cases reported in Niagara yesterday. One each on Saturday and Sunday.
“Ontario is reporting 478 cases of #COVID19 as more than 34,200 tests were completed. Locally, there are 153 new cases in Toronto with 95 in Peel and 90 in Ottawa. 68% of today’s cases are in people under the age of 40,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.
There were three new deaths reported today in Ontario. There was no new deaths reported in the Niagara region yesterday.
Last Monday, Sept. 14, was the first time Ontario saw case numbers above 300 since June 6. Since then, case numbers remained above 400 for several days, and now approaches 500 cases with today’s report.
The Niagara Region saw new case numbers return to low single digits over the weekend with one case reported Saturday and Sunday and three new cases reported Monday. Tuesday’s new case count is seven.
Ontario has now had 47,752 confirmed cases, while 41,342 of those cases have been resolved. There have been 2,832 deaths. There are 82 cases in hospitals, with 24 in intensive care and 11 on ventilators.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara region is now at 1002 with 896 cases resolved. Of those cases, there are 42 active cases and two active outbreaks. There have been 64 deaths.
