Ontario saw its biggest one-day drop of new COVID-19 cases since the end of July.
The province reported 335 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday against 478 new cases reported Tuesday, a drop of 30 per cent.
Niagara region reported one new case today, and seven yesterday, raising the total cases ever recorded in the region to 1,003.
“Ontario is reporting 335 cases of #COVID19 as more than 35,400 tests were completed. Locally, there are 102 new cases in Toronto with 79 in Peel and 65 in Ottawa. 69% of today’s cases are in people under the age of 40,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.
There were three new deaths reported today in Ontario. There were no new deaths reported in the Niagara region yesterday.
Last Monday, Sept. 14, was the first time Ontario saw case numbers above 300 since June 6. Since then, case numbers remained above 400 for several days, and they approached 500 cases yesterday before today’s drop to 335.
The Niagara Region saw new case numbers return to low single digits over last weekend with one case per day reported Saturday and Sunday and three new cases reported Monday. Tuesday’s new case count was seven. Wednesday’s case count will be released later today.
Ontario has now had 48,087 confirmed cases, while 44,435 of those cases have been resolved. There have been 2,835 deaths. There are 88 cases in hospitals, with 24 in intensive care and 11 on ventilators.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara region is now at 1003 with 896 cases resolved. Of those cases, there are 43 active cases and four active outbreaks. There have been 64 deaths.
