Ontario reported 783 new COVID-19 cases today, an increase from yesterday’s report of 721 cases, and Tuesday’s report of 746.
Niagara Region has reported seven new cases today, a slight decrease from the 12 new cases reported yesterday.
“Ontario is reporting 783 cases of #COVID19 as nearly 40,000 tests were completed. Locally, there are 239 new cases in Toronto, 136 new cases in Peel, 127 in York Region and 89 in Ottawa. There are 779 more resolved cases,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher cases numbers include the Durham Region with 40 new cases, the Halton Region with 28 cases, and the Eastern Region with 23 new cases. All other public health units reported 20 cases or less.
There were five new COVID deaths reported today in Ontario, up five from yesterday’s report of zero. There were no new deaths reported today in the Niagara Region. There was one new death reported in the Niagara Region yesterday, the first new death reported since Oct. 5.
The Niagara Region cases have remained below 20 since Sept. 27, with most numbers ranging from nine to 12 cases, including yesterday’s report of 12 new cases. There were seven new cases reported today.
Ontario has now had 62,196 total cases, with 53,291 cases resolved. There have been 3,022 deaths. There are currently 253 cases in hospitals, the highest number of daily hospitalized cases since June. 26, with 62 in intensive care and 31 on ventilators.
Ontario continues to see a rise in COVID-19 cases in hospitals. Hospitalized cases increased by 22, the number of those on ventilators decreased by two and the number of those in intensive care has decreased by four.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region is now at 1,233 with 1,082 resolved. Of those cases, there are 85 active cases, dropping two since yesterday and four active outbreaks, dropping two from yesterday. There have been 66 deaths.
