Ontario reported 821 new COVID-19 cases today, up by over 100 since yesterday’s report of 704 cases.
Niagara Region reported 16 new cases today, up one from yesterday’s report.
“Ontario is reporting 821 cases of #COVID19 as over 24,000 tests were completed. Locally, there are 327 new cases in Toronto, 136 in Peel, 64 in York Region and 79 in Ottawa. There are 628 more resolved cases,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher cases numbers include the Halton Region with 46 new cases, Hamilton with 36 cases, Durham Region with 32 new cases. All other public health units reported 25 cases or less.
There were three new COVID deaths reported today in Ontario, down one from yesterday’s report of four. There have been 3,053 deaths in Ontario. There was one new death reported yesterday in the Niagara Region, the third one is less than a week. There were no new deaths reported today. There have been 68 deaths in the region from COVID-19.
The Niagara Region cases have remained below 20 since Sept. 27, with most numbers ranging from nine to 12 cases. Today and yesterday’s report was slightly above this range with 16 cases reported today and 15 reported yesterday but remained below the 20 mark.
Ontario has now had 65,896 total cases, with 56,606 cases resolved. There are currently 274 cases in hospitals, the highest number of daily hospitalized cases since June, with 72 in intensive care and 45 on ventilators.
Ontario continues to see a rise in COVID-19 cases in hospitals. Hospitalized cases increased by 22, the number of those on ventilators increased by three and the number of those in intensive care increased by five since yesterday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region as of yesterday is now at 1,284 with 1,138 resolved. Of those cases, there are 78 active cases, increase by 12 since yesterday and six active outbreaks, increasing by one since yesterday.
