The Niagara police’s R.I.D.E. program in Beamsville and Welland on stop 400 vehicles Saturday.
The Niagara Regional Police conducted a R.I.D.E. checkpoint on King Street in the Town of Beamsville and on Division Street in the City of Welland between 7:30 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. Officers stopped over 400 vehicles and conducted 19 roadside tests.
One person received a three-day licence suspension. Six provincial tickets were issued. One vehicle was removed from the road “as it was unfit”, said a police bulletin.
“The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to reducing impaired driving offences through education and the apprehension of offenders through enforcement programs like R.I.D.E. Impaired driving is still the leading criminal offence causing deaths in Canada,” it said.
This R.I.D.E. initiative was funded, in part, by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
