Ontario is reporting 1,050 new COVID-19 cases today, a new record high for daily cases in the province.
Niagara Region reports 38 new COVID-19 cases today, the highest number of daily cases reported since June.
“Ontario is reporting 1,050 cases of #COVID19. Locally, there are 408 new cases in Toronto, 212 in Peel, 86 in Halton, 76 in York Region and 57 in Durham. There are 837 more resolved cases and nearly 25,300 tests completed,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher cases numbers include Hamilton with 34 new cases and Ottawa with 34 new cases. All other public health units reported 30 cases or less.
There are 14 new deaths reported in Ontario today, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the province to 3,166. There were three new deaths reported yesterday in Niagara. There are no new deaths reported today. In total, 74 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
The Niagara Region reported 38 new cases today, becoming the new highest daily case reports since June 3, when 40 cases were reported. Daily case numbers have ranged from five to 15 over the last few weeks, but today’s and the weekend’s reports were well above this range.
357 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 78,705 total cases, with 67,244 cases resolved. There are currently 357 cases in hospitals, with 73 in intensive care and 47 on ventilators.
Ontario continues to see a rise in COVID-19 cases in hospitals. Hospitalized cases increased by 29, the number of those in intensive care decreased by two, and the number of those on ventilators increased by two since yesterday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region as of yesterday is now at 1,520 with 1,250 resolved. Of those cases, there are 196, increasing by 32 since yesterday and 12 active outbreaks, up two since yesterday.
