Niagara reported the highest new COVID case report since June with 63 new cases today, with the surge of cases coming predominantly from Lincoln. The previous high was on June 3 with 40 cases.
Yesterday, Niagara reported only 18 cases yesterday.
Meanwhile, Ontario continues to see a rise in COVID-19 cases in hospitals with an increase of 55 reported today. New cases were at 1,388, beating Sunday’s high of 1328.
According to the Ontario COVID-19 website, only 50 cases have been reported in Niagara. It is unclear why there is a discrepancy over the regions number of 63 today.
The number of people in intensive care in Ontario hospitals decreased by two, and the number of those on ventilators remained the same since yesterday.
Niagara cases were mentioned by Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliot on Twitter this morning as well.
“Ontario is reporting 1,388 cases of #COVID19. Locally, there are 520 new cases in Toronto, 395 in Peel, 100 in York Region, 72 in Halton and 50 in Niagara. There are 781 more resolved cases and over 29,100 tests completed,” said Elliott on Twitter this morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher cases numbers include Waterloo with 42 new cases, Durham Region with 36 cases, and Hamilton with 35 new cases. All other public health units reported 30 cases or less.
There are 15 new deaths reported in Ontario today, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the province to 3,260. There was one new death reported in the Niagara Region yesterday. In total, 77 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
422 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 86,783 total cases, with 73,417 cases resolved. There are currently 422 cases in hospitals, with 82 in intensive care and 54 on ventilators.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region is now at 1,718 with 1,362 resolved. Of those cases, there are 279 active cases, increasing by 44 since yesterday and 15 active outbreaks, same as yesterday.
