Ontario reported 1,575 new COVID-19 cases today, surpassing yesterday’s record high of 1,426.
The Niagara Region reported 20 cases today, a decrease from yesterday’s report of 27.
“Ontario is reporting 1,575 cases of #COVID19. Locally, there are 472 new cases in Toronto, 448 in Peel, 155 in York Region and 91 in Ottawa. There are 917 more resolved cases and nearly 39,600 tests completed,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher cases numbers include Durham Region with 61 new cases, Waterloo with 58 cases and Halton with 54 cases. Other public health units reported 50 cases or less.
There are 18 new deaths reported in Ontario today, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the province to 3,293. There was one new death reported yesterday in the Niagara Region. No new deaths reported today. In total, 78 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
Niagara cases are starting to go down after the new highest COVID case of 63 reported on Tuesday, with 45 of those cases coming from a workplace outbreak in an agricultural operation in Lincoln. The previous high was on June 3 with 40 cases.
431 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 89,784 total cases, with 75,220 cases resolved. There are currently 431 cases in hospitals, with 98 in intensive care and 62 on ventilators.
Ontario continues to see a rise in COVID-19 cases in hospitals with an increase of seven reported today. The number of people in intensive care in Ontario hospitals increased by 10, and the number of those on ventilators increased by five since yesterday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region is now at 1,764 with 1,418 resolved. Of those cases, there are 268 active cases, down 11 from yesterday and 14 active outbreaks, same as yesterday.
