Ontario reported 1,418 new COVID-19 cases today, as the province surpasses 100,000 total cases.
The Niagara Region reported 25 new cases, up by five since yesterday’s report of 20.
“Ontario is reporting 1,418 cases of #COVID19. Locally, there are 400 new cases in Peel, 393 in Toronto and 168 in York Region. There are 1,415 more resolved cases and nearly 48,200 tests completed,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Durham Region with 46 new cases, Windsor with 45 new cases, London with 37 cases, and Hamilton and Halton region both with 36 cases. Other public health units reported 35 cases or less.
There are eight new deaths reported in Ontario today. This brings the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the province to 3,451. There were no new deaths reported today in Niagara. In total, 81 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
Niagara cases continue to drop, with numbers remaining below 30 since last Tuesday when the new highest COVID case count of 63 was reported. The previous high was on June 3 with 40 cases.
518 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 100,790 total cases, with 84,716 cases resolved. There are currently 518 cases in hospitals, with 142 in intensive care and 92 on ventilators.
Ontario has seen a rise in COVID-19 cases in hospitals lately, but today many of these cases decreased slightly. Hospitalized cases decreased by eight and the number of those in intensive decreased by four, but patients on ventilators increased by four since yesterday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region is now at 1,929 with 1,665 resolved. Of those cases, there are 183 active cases, increasing by six since yesterday and 18 active outbreaks, up by two since yesterday.
