Ontario reported 1,855 new COVID-19 cases today, surpassing the previous record of 1,589 reported on Monday.
The Niagara Region reported 26 cases today, a slight increase from yesterday’s report of 24.
“Ontario is reporting 1,855 cases of #COVID19 and over 58,000 tests completed. Locally, there are 517 new cases in Peel, 494 in Toronto, 189 in York Region and 130 in Halton. There are 1,451 more resolved cases,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Hamilton with 82 new cases, Waterloo with 74 cases, Durham Region with 65 new cases, and Windsor with 52 new cases. Other public health units reported 40 cases or less.
There are 20 new deaths reported in Ontario today. This brings the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the province to 3,595. There are no new deaths reported today. In total, 83 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
Niagara Region continues to report numbers under 30 after the spike of cases seen this weekend with 36 cases reported on Saturday. This is the highest daily case count since Nov. 10 when the region saw a new record high of 63 cases. The previous high was on June 3 with 40 cases.
541 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 111,216 total cases, with 94,366 cases resolved. There are currently 541 cases in hospitals, with 151 in intensive care and 101 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases decreased by 15, the number of those in intensive care remained the same and patients on ventilators decreased by four since yesterday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region is now at 2,085 with 1,786 resolved. Of those cases, there are 216 active cases, increasing by three since yesterday and 18 active outbreaks, down by two since yesterday.
