The District School Board of Niagara has appointed new Chairs at its annual meeting.

The school board acclaimed Sue Barnett as Chair of the Board and elected Alex Bradnam as Vice Chair of the Board during its annual meeting on Tuesday.

Barnett, a representative for Welland, will begin her fourth non-conecutive year as Chair.

Bradnam, a representative for St. Catharines and Niagara-on-the-Lake, will serve as Vice-Chair, replacing Dave Schaubel, Trustee for Fort Erie and Port Colborne, after his two-year term.

“We will continue to work as a team to contribute to essential, quality public education that the students and families at the DSBN deserve. I look forward to serving another term as Chair and supporting DSBN students, staff, and the interests of our communities,” said Barnett.

Bradnam said in the same DSBN advisory, “Our board has the collective ability to support each other, and I am proud of that,” he said. “In these challenging times, we may have to look at different ways to support our schools, including the ability to provide more funding and personnel to allow our staff to address growing mental health needs. There is a lot of work to do, and I know we are up to this task and more when we work together.”
