Ontario broke a new COVID-19 pandemic record Thursday as it reported 1,983 new COVID-19 cases, surpassing the previous record in the province of 1,925 cases reported Monday.
The Niagara Region reported 36 new cases today. The region reported 20 new cases yesterday and 33 cases on Tuesday.
There were 35 new COVID-19 deaths reported in Ontario today. This brings the total number in the province to 3,871. There were no new deaths reported today in Niagara. In total, 87 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 1,983 cases of #COVID19 and over 61,800 tests completed. Locally, there are 515 new cases in Peel, 496 in Toronto and 208 in York Region. There are 1,804 more resolved cases” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Windsor with 112 new cases, Hamilton with 75 new cases, Waterloo with 65 new cases, London with 61 cases, Guelph and Durham Region with 55 cases, and Halton Region with 51. Other public health units reported 50 cases or less.
Niagara Region trends
Niagara Region reported 36 cases today, 20 cases yesterday and 33 cases on Tuesday. On Sunday, 38 cases were reported in the region, surpassing the spike of 36 cases reported on Nov. 21. This was the highest daily case count since Nov. 10 when the region saw a new record high of 63 cases.
829 cases in hospitals
Ontario has now had 134,783 total cases, with 114,679 cases resolved. There are currently 829 cases in hospitals, with 228 in intensive care and 132 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases increased by 18, the number of those in intensive care increased by seven and patients on ventilators increased by three since yesterday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region is now at 2,405 with 2,071 resolved. Of those cases, there are 247 active cases, increasing by 17 since yesterday and 15 active outbreaks, same as yesterday.
