Rudy will be on patrol come Monday. That’s the day Niagara police’s latest canine recruit graduates.
Rudy and his handler Constable Tim Wiley will graduate that day and start work with the force’s K9 Unit.
The NRPS will be hosting a virtual graduation ceremony at 1:00 p.m. for Rudy and Wiley. The ceremony will not be open to the public, but a link to the live ceremony will be provided prior to the start of the event.
The Niagara Regional Police Service Canine Unit has been a fully operational unit since 1987. Another two are cross-trained in explosive detection.
Rudy has been trained to detect and follow a human scent, track fleeing suspects through all terrain, in light or in darkness, engaging fleeing and violent suspects, disengage after a suspect has surrendered or when ordered to do so by their handler, protect their respective handler on cue or by command and in evidence detection.
