The Ontario government reported 313 new COVID-19 cases today and over 400 new cases over the weekend. This is the first time case numbers this high have been reported since early June.

Meanwhile, Niagara region reported seven new cases today.

“Ontario is reporting 313 cases of #COVID19 as nearly 30,000 tests were completed. 78 per cent of today’s cases are from three regions, with 112 in Toronto, 71 in Peel and 60 in Ottawa. All other PHUs (Public Health Units) have fewer than 10 new cases, except York with 13 cases. 15 PHUs have no new cases…67 per cent of today’s cases are people under the age of 40,” said Health Minister Christine Elliot on Twitter this morning.

On the weekend, the province saw over 436 new cases reported. The Niagara region saw seven new cases. There were 232 cases reported in the province on Saturday, with two new cases in the Niagara Region. And 204 cases reported Sunday for Ontario, with five in the Niagara Region.

There were two new deaths reported over the weekend in Ontario, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. There have been no new deaths reported in the Niagara Region.

Ontario has been seeing a steady rise in cases over the past couple of weeks. Numbers have remained in the triple digits since Aug. 26 when only 88 cases were reported. Additionally, Sunday, Sept. 13 also marked the third day in a row that cases remained above 200. And today is the first time case numbers have gone above 300 since June 6.  

Niagara COVID-19 cases inch up

The Niagara Region also saw a slight jump in cases. Sunday’s report of five new cases is the first time the region has seen daily case numbers of five or above since Aug. 19, when six cases were reported.

Ontario has now had 44,817 confirmed cases, while 39,974 of those have been resolved. There have been 2,816 deaths. There are 47 cases in hospital, with 17 in intensive care and eight on ventilators.

The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region is now at 969 with 874 cases resolved. Of those cases, there are 31 active cases and zero active outbreaks. There have been 64 deaths.
