Detectives Investigate After CN Train Struck With Unknown Object – Grimsby

On September 17th, 2022, at 7:54pm Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 8 District (Grimsby) responded the westbound CN tracks located near the Oakes Road North crossing, in the Town of Grimsby, regarding damage to a CN train.

Upon arrival, officers met with the train conductor who indicated the train was travelling at approximately 65 kilometers per hour when the windshield on the locomotive was struck with an unknown object.  The impact caused the windshield to shatter, causing minor injuries to the train’s conductor.

A person of interest, who is described as follows, was seen at the railway crossing moments prior to the windshield becoming damaged:

–          Male

–          White

–          16 to 20 Years

–          Wearing a white t-shirt

–          Wearing black shorts

–          Wearing white running shoes

The person of interest was seen running from the scene holding with what appeared to be a flashlight emitting from a cellphone.

During daylight hours on September 18th, 2022, officers re-attended the scene and discovered golf balls in the area of the train tracks.  Although it has not been confirmed the damage was caused by a golf ball, detectives are appealing to residents in the area of Oakes Road North to review their CCTV footage for any relevant information.
