On Friday April 7th, 2023, uniform officers from the 1 District – St. Catharines / Thorold office of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) conducted a R.I.D.E. spot check in the City of St. Catharines.
The R.I.D.E. spot check took place on Burleigh Hill Drive at Dalecrest Avenue. Officers from the NRPS Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) also assisted with the R.I.D.E. event.
Officers stopped over 300 vehicles and inquired if any of the drivers had consumed any alcohol or drugs earlier in the evening. In total, 12 drivers were required to provide a sample of their breath for analysis.
One driver was determined to be in the “Alert” range, meaning their blood alcohol concentration was between 50 milligrams of alcohol and 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood. As a result, the driver had their licence suspended for three days in accordance with the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.
11 Provincial Offence Notices (tickets) were issued to drivers throughout the evening for offences under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.
A small quantity of cannabis was seized and a ticket under the Ontario Cannabis Control Act was issued.
The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to reducing impaired driving offences through education and the apprehension of offender’s byway of enforcement programs such as R.I.D.E.
