Niagara Falls – In October 2025, Detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Services (NRPS) Human Trafficking Unit (HTU) arrested and charged three individuals (two males and one female) with human trafficking related offences.
Their investigation into that matter led to new information involving another individual. As a result of the new investigation, detectives have arrested and charged 22-year-old Joel JONGWE of Niagara Falls.
JONGWE has been charged with the following offences:
Obtain Sexual Services for Consideration Under the age of 18 Sexual Assault Sexual Interference
JONGWE remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street in St. Catharines.

The NRPS Human Trafficking Unit also recognizes the ongoing assistance of Victim Services Niagara and other members of the Anti-Human Trafficking Response Protocol of the Niagara Region.
