On July 3, 2022, at approximately 1:50pm 2 District – Niagara Falls uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a robbery call in the City of Niagara Falls.
Officers attended a plaza on Lundy’s Lane near Drummond Road where they met with the victim who received a minor injury from a knife during the incident.
The initial investigation by officers determined that the victim had left their bike in-front of a store and went into shop. When they exited, the bike had been stolen. The victim located his bike in the possession of male suspect behind the store. When the victim confronted the suspect, he drew a knife and swung it at the victim. The victim fell to the ground and their phone dropped from their pocket. The suspect saw this and demanded the phone at knife point. The suspect left the stolen bike and ran from the area with the phone.
2 District uniform officers, detectives and a K9 unit flooded the area to locate the suspect. Officers were assisted by NRPS Real Time Operations Centre (RTOC) personnel using closed circuit cameras in the area to identify the direction of travel of the fleeing suspect.
The suspect was located and after a short foot pursuit was arrested by officers. Terry Ronald Empey (35 years old) of Fort Erie has been arrested and charged with the criminal offences of:
