In February of 2022, the Niagara Regional Police Service began an investigation into a suspect who allegedly was in possession of firearms at a residence in the area of Church Street and Court Street, in the City of St Catharines.
On February 10, 2022, the suspect was operating a motor vehicle in the Town of Fort Erie and was stopped by officers for a Highway Traffic Act violation, which led to the arrest of the suspect and the seizure of ammunition and drugs.
On February 16, 2022, a search warrant was executed in the area of Church Street and Court Street, in the City of St. Catharines. As a result, the following was seized:
Winchester Model 94, 30/30 lever action rifle Sawed-off Lakefield, Model 64, semi-automatic, .22 caliber rifle 30 rounds of .22 caliber rim-fire ammunition $12,000 Canadian currency 1570 grams of crystal methamphetamine 538.8 grams of MDMA 785 grams of fentanyl powder 346 pills believed to be fentanyl pressed pills. 711 grams of cocaine in addition to a drug processing station. 73 Dilaudid 8mg pills. 863 Oxycodone pills The estimated street value is over $600,000.
Robert William Buchanan (69 years old) of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with the following offences of:
Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized (2 Counts) Possession of a restricted firearm contrary to order Possession of a prohibited firearm contrary to order Possession of ammunition contrary to order Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition Careless use of a firearm (2 Counts) Tampering with serial number Unauthorized possession of a firearm (2 Counts) Possession of crystal methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking Possession of MDMA for the purpose of trafficking Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking Possession of dilaudid for the purpose of trafficking Possession of oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000
Buchanan was held in custody and is expected to appear in court on February 23, 2022.
