On December 29, 2021, at approximately 1:30PM, 1 District uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a serious assault in St. Catharines.
Officers along with paramedics from Niagara Emergency Medical Services attended a multi room residence in the area of Lake Street and Queens Street. The victim, a man in his 40s was found suffering from nonlife threatening, trauma related injuries. The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics.
The initial investigation by officers determined that a male suspect had attended the property and got into a verbal altercation with the victim that escalated. The victim was repeatedly kicked while he lay on the sidewalk. The suspect fled prior to officers’ arrival. It was determined the victim’s cell phone and wallet were stolen during the assault.
Officers received information that the suspect was at a residence on Church Street near Frank Street in St. Catharines. Officers attended and the suspect fled out a window prior to being located. Officers were able to contact the suspect and he agreed to surrender himself. He was arrested at 4:30PM in St. Catharines.
1 District detectives were assigned to this investigation.
The Church Street location was held while detectives obtained and executed a search warrant. Detectives were able to locate evidence related to the assault / robbery.
Patrick Ronnie Roy (20 years) of St. Catharines has been arrested and charged with the criminal offences of:
Assault Cause Bodily Harm – Sec. 267(b) CC Robbery – Sec. 343(b) CC Fail to Comply Probation Order – Sec. 733.1(1) CC
Roy was held in custody in order to attend a video bail hearing on December 30, 2021, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
