Man Arrested in St. Catharines Using Fraudulent ID To Buy Luxury Truck

On Wednesday, January 5th, 2022, members of 1 District—St. Catharines uniform patrol were dispatched to a Fraud – In Progress call for service at Cars Unlimited Niagara in the city of St. Catharines.

Uniform officers arrived on scene to investigate the matter and determined that a male suspect was attempting to purchase 2021 Cadillac Escalade (valued at nearly $170,000.00) using fraudulent identification. The male suspect attempted to falsely identify himself to uniform officers with the fraudulent identification. Officers determined the suspect was in possession of two fraudulent pieces of identification; a Social Insurance Number card, and a British Columbia Driver’s Licence. 

Thierry MUANA MANTUNGI (34-year-old) of Windsor was arrested and charged with the following offences:

Identity Theft, contrary to Section 402.2(1) of the Criminal Code Fraud Over $5000, contrary to Section 380(1)(a) of the Criminal Code Possess Identity Document, contrary to Section 56.1(1) of the Criminal Code Obstruct Police, contrary to Section 129(1) of the Criminal Code

MUANA MANTUNGI was later released from custody on a Form 10 – Undertaking with a future court date.
