On Saturday June 17, 2023, at approximately 3pm, 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara on the Lake) Uniform Officers were called to a residential building in the area of Buchanan Avenue and Kitchener Street in the City of Niagara Falls.
Officers were informed that a male had uttered threats when asked to leave the building. Due to the nature of the threats, the area was contained and Emergency Task Unit (ETU) officers as well as Negotiators were called out to assist.
After approximately 5 hours, the male surrendered himself to police.
35 year old Kidus Dawit of Niagara Falls Is facing the following charges:
Uttering Threats, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code Fail to Comply with Probation, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
Dawit is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Sunday June 18, 2023, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.
