New COVID-19 cases drop in Ontario with 1,249 reported today, hospitalized cases up by 29; Niagara reports 26

Ontario reported 1,249 new COVID-19 cases today, a decrease from yesterday’s report of 1,487.

The Niagara Region reported 26 new COVID-19 cases today, an increase from yesterday’s report of 21.

“Ontario is reporting 1,249 cases of #COVID19. Locally, there are 569 new cases in Toronto, 256 in Peel and 94 in York Region. There are 1,135 more resolved cases and nearly 26,500 tests completed,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.

Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Durham Region with 69 new cases, Halton Region with 58 new cases, and Hamilton with 42 cases. Other public health units reported 40 cases or less.

There are 12 new deaths reported in Ontario today, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the province to 3,383. There was one new death reported yesterday in the Niagara Region. There were no new deaths reported today. In total, 79 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.

Niagara cases continued to decrease over the weekend after the new highest COVID case count of 63 reported last Tuesday. The previous high was on June 3 with 40 cases.

529 cases in Ontario hospitals

Ontario has now had 96,745 total cases, with 80,430 cases resolved. There are currently 529 cases in hospitals, with 127 in intensive care and 75 on ventilators.

Ontario continues to see a rise in COVID-19 cases in hospitals. Hospitalized cases increased by 29, the number of those in intensive care increased by two, while patients on ventilators increased by five since yesterday.

The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region is now at 1,868 with 1,584 resolved. Of those cases, there are 205 active cases, increasing by two since yesterday and 13 active outbreaks, decreasing by one since yesterday.
