Niagara Falls Man Arrested Following NRPS Child Abuse Investigation

In early May of 2025 detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) Child Abuse Unit (CAU) began an investigation into reports of sexual abuse of a young person in the City of Niagara Falls.

Detectives received information during the initial investigation that a female under 16 years of age was repeatedly sexually assault in the City of Niagara Falls by an adult male babysitter from 2014-2024.

On May 21, 2025, detectives arrested and charged Nygel Kovacs, 31, of Niagara Falls with the Criminal Code offences of:

Sexual Assault Sexual Interference Invitation to Sexual Touching

Kovacs was held in custody for a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on May 22, 2025.

Child Abuse Unit detectives continue to investigate this matter.  Over the course of the investigation detectives received information that Kovacs has babysat other children in the past and there may be more victims.   Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the investigating officers by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1008430.
