Niagara Region Public Health is reminding residents to check health inspection reports before dining out.
“Now, more than ever before, it is important to safely support Niagara’s restaurants and other food service businesses,” a Niagara Region Public Health advisory said Friday.
Ontario’s Health Protection and Promotion Act and the Ontario Food Premises Regulation outline standards required to safely operate food and drink establishments. These include proper food temperatures, food handling, sanitation, dishwashing, prevention of contamination and personal hygiene practices.
Based on these regulations, public health inspectors conduct over 6,800 food premises inspections each year. Inspection reports, including infractions, closures, and convictions can be found online.
Reports for Niagara Region restaurants can be found here: https://niagararegion.ca/health/inspect/default.aspx.
If you have any questions about operating a restaurant or home-based food establishment, you can contact Niagara Region Public Health’s environmental health division via email at [email protected] or the Environmental Health Duty Officer Line at 905-688-8248 ext. 7590.
