On Monday May 29th, 2023, uniform officers from the 2 District Niagara Falls office of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) conducted a traffic initiative in the City of Niagara Falls.
The goal of the initiative was to remind drivers about safe driving habits that can help protect the lives of citizens and visitors in Niagara. It focused on the Highway Traffic Act offences associated to using cellphones while driving and drivers improperly wearing seatbelts.
The initiative was in corroboration with the NRPS Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) and Community Oriented Response and Engagement Unit (CORE). The education and enforcement initiative took place at the intersection of Main Street and Ferry Street in Niagara Falls. The four-hour initiative resulting in 29 Provincial Offence Notices (tickets) and the issuance of one Suspension Notice. Additionally, the licence plates of one vehicle were seized for plate related offences.
Distracted inattentive drivers remains one of the leading factors in motor vehicle collisions.
The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to achieving its identified goal of enhancing road safety, as outlined in the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan.
