NRPS Detectives Investigating Cyclist Involved Collision in Welland – Update 1

Update 1 – 

The 72 year old male has succumbed to his injuries. Out of respect for next of kin, no further details are being released.

 

Original Release –

On December 21, 2021, at 12:55PM 3 District – Welland uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a cyclist being hit by a pickup truck in Welland.

Officers and emergency service personnel arrived on scene in the area of King Street and 4th Street and located a 72-year-old man suffering from what was believed to be life threatening injuries.  The man was treated on scene by Niagara Emergency Medical Service paramedics.  Paramedics transported the man to a local hospital, where he was subsequently airlifted to an out of region hospital for further care.

Detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit have been assigned to the investigation, they are being assisted by detectives from the NRPS Forensic Services Unit.

The 59-year-old male driver of the grey 2000 Chevrolet Silverado involved in the collision was not injured.
