NRPS Investigating Fatality on Seventh Street in St. Catharines – Update 2

Continued investigation by Detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit has resulted in the identification of a suspect.

On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, a female driver was charged in connection with this incident.

A 51-year-old St. Catharines female is facing the following charges:

The female has been released on a Summons with a future court date of September 13th, 2022, to deal with the charges.

NRPS Investigating Fatality on Seventh Street in St. Catharines – Update 1 (June 14, 2022)

Detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate this incident.

The deceased is a 36-year-old man who was living and working in St. Catharines.  The two injured persons are both males, one is 36 years old and the other 42 years old.   They are also both living and working in St. Catharines.  The two injured men remain in hospital with serious injuries.  All three men are residents of Mexico working at an area farm. 

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.  No charges have been laid in relation to this investigation.

Roads in the area were re-opened overnight.

The next of kin have been notified and the identity of the deceased is not being released.

ORIGINAL RELEASE (June 13, 2022)

On June 13, 2022, at approximately 6:42pm emergency service personnel were called to a report of three cyclists having been struck by a car in west St. Catharines.

1 District St. Catharines uniform officers along Niagara Emergency Medical Services and St. Catharines Fire Service arrived on scene on Seventh Street Louth between the South Service Road and Second Avenue Louth.  Emergency services personnel were directed to three cyclists that had been struck by a white Ford Edge.

All three cyclists were treated at the scene and transported by paramedics to a local hospital. One of the cyclists was in critical condition at the scene. Despite resuscitative efforts at the scene and at the hospital, he was later pronounced deceased.  The two other cyclists are in stable condition suffering from what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit have been called to the scene to investigate the incident.  They are being assisted by detectives from the Forensic Services Unit.

Seventh Street Louth in that area is expected to be closed overnight while detectives investigate.  The public is asked to find alternative routes.
