Update 1 – January 27, 2022
The investigation into this St. Catharines gun point robbery has been ongoing by 1 District St. Catharines detectives since December 28, 2021.
Detectives were able to determine that the suspect vehicle and the stolen Land Rover left the Niagara Region on the QEW.
The stolen Land Rover was located and recovered on January 3, 2022, in Toronto. Further investigation has identified the suspect in the video seen holding a handgun.
As detectives attempted to locate the suspect and arrest him, they learnt he was already in custody in a Toronto area detention centre on unrelated charges.
The Glock handgun used in the robbery has been recovered.
On January 27, 2022, at a court appearance in Toronto, Anthony Dass (22 years) of North York was formally charged by the Niagara Regional Police in relation to the December 28, 2021, St. Catharines robbery. Dass is charged with the criminal offences of:
Break and Enter – Commit Robbery Using a Firearm Disguise with Intent Carrying, Transporting and Storing a Firearm in a Careless Manner Point Firearm at Another Person without Lawful Excuse Carrying a Firearm for the Purpose of Committing an Indictable Offence Carrying a Firearm in a Concealed Manner when Not Authorized Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Vehicle Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited (3 Counts) Fail to Comply with Probation Order
Dass remains in custody.
