On November 1, 2023, at 12:58am emergency service personnel responded to a serious single car collision in Fort Erie.
Officers from the 5 District (Fort Erie) office of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS), Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics and Fort Erie Fire Service personnel attended the scene on Dominion Road between Rose Avenue and Kraft Road.
A white 2022 BMW X3 had left the roadway and struck a tree. There were three occupants in the BMW including the male driver. An 18-year-old female from Niagara Falls was ejected from the BMW due to the impact. She has been transported to an out of region hospital with what is believed to be life threatening injuries. The driver and a 19-year-old male passenger from Niagara Falls were transported to local hospitals to treated for what is believed to be minor injuries.
Detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit have been assigned to the investigation. They are being assisted by detectives from the NRPS Forensic Services Unit.
The driver of the BMW a 17-year-old male from Niagara Falls has been arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offence of:
Impaired Operation Conveyance Causing Bodily Harm Impaired Operation Conveyance Exceed BAC Over 80mgs.
The 17-year-old male has been held in custody for a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on November 1, 2023.
The Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada prohibits the Niagara Region Police Service from releasing the identity of the accused.
Dominion Rd. is closed from Kraft Rd. to Rose Ave. for the collision investigation. It will remain closed for most of the morning. The public is asked to please find alternative routes.
