Niagara Region’s transit system, NRT OnDemand, is expanding to Niagara-on-the-Lake, giving residents of West Niagara communities a new way to travel more easily to further areas of the region.
The shared transportation service was launched in August and has been running for three months in Grimsby, Lincoln, Pelham, Wainfleet, and West Lincoln. Using the NRT OnDemand app anyone can book a ride for $3 across their town (if their town council has opted for the local service) or $6 to another town or city in the Niagara Region. Local service is offered in Grimsby, Lincoln and Pelham only.
Next week NRT OnDemand will expand to Niagara-on-the-Lake so riders can take trips along Regional Rd. 55 (Niagara Stone Rd.) with service to Old Town, Virgil and Glendale. Two vehicles will be dedicated to serving Niagara-on-the-Lake. The cars will run Monday to Saturday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Local trips from West Niagara to Niagara-on-the-Lake will costs $6. NOTL residents can travel locally for $3 or $6 to the Outlet Collection in Niagara.
While NRT OnDemand is a shared ride service, it follows strict COVID-19 guidelines. All riders must wear masks. Drivers are separated from riders by a clear plexiglass partition. And all vehicles are cleaned thoroughly and frequently, and are maintained by Niagara Region.
NRT OnDemand officially extends to Niagara-on-the-Lake on Nov. 23. To learn more about the NRT OnDemand service visit the Niagara Region website.
