Ontario discloses public employee salaries over $100K for 2020

The Ontario government has disclosed 2020 salaries for all public employees that earn $100,000 or more in the province.

The salaries and taxable benefits are disclosed for all MPPs and senior cabinet members of the government as well as public employees that lead Ontario’s largest institutions.

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

The act applies to the provincial government, Crown agencies and corporations, Ontario Power Generation and subsidiaries, publicly funded organizations such as hospitals, municipalities, school boards, universities and colleges, and not-for-profit organizations that receive $1 million or more, or receive between $120,000 and $1 million if the provincial government funding they receive is 10% or more of their gross revenues.

The disclosure includes the salary for Ontario Premier Doug Ford who earned $208,974 in 2020, while Deputy Premier and Health Minister Christine Elliot earned $165,851.04, while Education Minister Stephen Lecce earned $165,851.04.

As for MPPs serving in the Niagara region:

Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff salary was $133,217.04

Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates salary was $125,874.

Niagara Centre MPP Jeff Burch earned $116,550.

St. Catharines MPP Jennie Stevens salary was $116,550.

At the region, Niagara’s Acting Medical Director Mustafa Hirji earned $296,583.32.

Niagara Health President and Interim Chief Executive Officer Lynn Guerriero earned $336,640.65.

In education, Warren Hoshizaki, Director of Education, at the District School Board of Niagara earned $300,726.85.

Camillo Cipriano, the current Director of Education at Niagara Catholic District School Board, earned $138,051.25 working at Halton Catholic District School Board, where he served as Superintendent of Education (Special Education Services) until the end of August 2020.

Town Chief Administrative Officers were also included in the disclosure.

Grimsby CAO Harry Schlange’s salary was $220,965.02

Lincoln CAO Mike Kirkopoulos earned $249,757.71

Pelham CAO David Cribbs earned $182,274.01.

Wainfleet CAO William Kolasa earned $145,665.73.

West Lincoln CAO Bev Hendry is listed with a salary of $192,373.52.

Top earner in the province is Ontario Power Generation CEO Kenneth Hartwick, who earned $1,228,517.00 in 2020.
