Ontario reported 1,890 new COVID-19 cases today, as hospitalized cases hit 811. The Niagara Region reported 21 new cases, a decrease from yesterday’s report of 33.
There are currently 811 cases in hospitals, with 221 in intensive care and 129 on ventilators. Ontario has now had 132,800 total cases, with 112,875 cases resolved.
There were 28 new COVID-19 deaths reported in Ontario today. This brings the total number in the province to 3,836. There were no new deaths reported today in Niagara. In total, 87 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 1,890 cases of #COVID19 and over 48,500 tests completed. Locally, there are 517 new cases in Toronto, 471 in Peel and 187 in York Region. There are 1,924 more resolved cases.” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Hamilton with 97 new cases, Halton Region with 96 new cases, Windsor with 94 cases, Durham Region with 75 cases, and Waterloo with 64. Other public health units reported 50 cases or less.
Niagara Region reported 34 cases yesterday, another day with cases above 30. On Sunday, 38 cases were reported in the region, surpassing the spike of 36 cases reported on Nov. 21. This is the highest daily case count since Nov. 10 when the region saw a new record high of 63 cases.
Hospitalized cases increased by 17, the number of those in intensive care increased by two and patients on ventilators decreased by three since yesterday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region is now at 2,370 with 2,053 resolved. Of those cases, there are 230 active cases, increasing by two since yesterday and 15 active outbreaks, same as yesterday.
