Ontario reported 3,065 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday and 12,077 cases over the weekend. The Niagara Region reported 73 new cases on Tuesday and 402 cases over the weekend.
Across the province, there were 3,089 new cases reported on Friday, 3,009 cases on Saturday, 3,041 cases on Sunday, and on Monday there were 2,938.
Niagara Region reported 111 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, 82 on Saturday, 110 on Sunday and 99 on Monday.
There were 23 new deaths reported on Friday in the province, 16 deaths reported on Saturday, 12 deaths reported on Sunday, 10 deaths reported on Monday, and eight reported today. There have been 7,458 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
The Niagara Region reported no new deaths over the weekend. In total, 376 people have died from the virus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 3,065 cases of #COVID19 and over 37,500 tests completed. Locally, there are 955 new cases in Toronto, 561 in Peel, 320 in York Region, 165 in Ottawa and 132 in Niagara,” said Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier of Ontario and Minister of Health, on Twitter Tuesday morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Hamilton with 128 new cases, Halton Region with 119, Durham Region with 101, and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph with 88 cases. Other public health units reported 90 cases or less.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 137,692 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Thursday bringing the total number of vaccines administered so far across the country to more than 6,693,081. That means that 15.716 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine.
Over 76,199 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 2,621,839 administered across the province so far. That’s 17.781 per cent of the provincial population.
Niagara Health reported 3,376 new doses were administered as of Thursday morning.
A total of 28,514 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes.

The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 79,077. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), that means about 17.655 per cent of the region’s residents have been vaccinated so far.

The region reported cases over 100 this weekend with 111 cases on Friday and 110 cases on Sunday. Cases were back below 100 for the remainder of the weekend with 82 cases on Saturday, 99 cases on Monday, and 72 cases on Tuesday.
Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. Numbers also remained below the previous daily record of 196 reported on Friday, Jan. 8.
No new COVID-19 related deaths have been reported over the weekend or beginning of the week. The COVID-19 death count measured since the start of the pandemic is 376.
1,161 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 367,602 total cases, with 333,576 cases resolved. There are 1,161 cases in hospitals, with 510 in intensive care and 310 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases increased by 45, the number of those in intensive care increased by 77, and patients on ventilators increased by 51 since Thursday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 10,254 with 9,079 resolved. Of those cases, there are 799 active cases, up by 188 since Thursday and 31 active outbreaks, up by four since Thursday.
