Ontario reported 1,426 new COVID-19 cases today, surpassing yesterday’s record high of 1,388.
The Niagara Region reported 28 new cases today, a significant decrease from yesterday’s report of 63 cases.
“Ontario is reporting 1,426 cases of #COVID19. Locally, there are 468 new cases in Peel, 384 in Toronto, 180 in York Region, 63 in Durham and 62 in Hamilton. There are 886 more resolved cases and over 36,700 tests completed,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher cases numbers include Waterloo with 40 new cases and Halton with 30 cases. Other public health units reported 30 cases or less.
There are 15 new deaths reported in Ontario today, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the province to 3,275. There was one new death reported today in the Niagara Region. In total, 78 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
Niagara reported the highest new COVID case report since June with 63 new cases yesterday, with 45 of those cases coming from a workplace outbreak in an agricultural operation in Lincoln. The previous high was on June 3 with 40 cases.
424 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 88,209 total cases, with 74,303 cases resolved. There are currently 424 cases in hospitals, with 88 in intensive care and 57 on ventilators.
Ontario continues to see a rise in COVID-19 cases in hospitals with an increase of two reported today, after an increase of 55 reported yesterday. The number of people in intensive care in Ontario hospitals increased by six, and the number of those on ventilators increased by three since yesterday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region is now at 1,745 with 1,388 resolved. Of those cases, there are 279 active cases, same as yesterday and 14 active outbreaks, down one from yesterday.
