Ontario reports 1,676 new COVID-19 cases and 10 new deaths; Niagara Region reports 34 new cases

Ontario reported 1,676 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, as hospitalized cases inch closer to 800 with 794 cases reported. The Niagara Region reported 34 new cases today with no new deaths.

There were 10 new COVID-19 deaths reported in Ontario today. This brings the total number in the province to 3,808. There were no new deaths reported today in Niagara. In total, 87 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.

“Ontario is reporting 1,676 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 39,200 tests completed. Locally, there are 588 new cases in Toronto, 349 in Peel and 141 in York Region. There are 1,549 more resolved cases,” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.

Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Windsor with 84 new cases, Durham Region with 76 new cases, Halton Region with 66 cases, Simcoe-Muskoka with 62 cases, Waterloo with 61, London with 55, and Hamilton with 51. Other public health units reported 35 cases or less.

Niagara Region reported 34 cases today, another day with cases above 30. On Sunday, 38 cases were reported, surpassing the spike of 36 cases reported on Nov. 21. This is the highest daily case count since Nov. 10 when the region saw a new record high of 63 cases.

Hospitalized cases up by 69 since Monday

Ontario has now had 130,910 total cases, with 110,951 cases resolved. There are currently 794 cases in hospitals, with 219 in intensive care and 132 on ventilators.

Hospitalized cases increased by 69, the number of those in intensive care increased by six and patients on ventilators increased by 11 since yesterday.

The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region is now at 2,350 with 2,035 resolved. Of those cases, there are 228 active cases, decreasing by 14 since yesterday and 15 active outbreaks, up by one since yesterday.
