Ontario reported 3,510 new COVID-19 cases on Monday and 8,041 cases over the weekend. The Niagara Region reported 24 new cases on Monday and 198 cases over the weekend.
Across the province, there were 4,094 new cases reported on Saturday, and 3,947 on Sunday.
Niagara Region reported 166 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday and 32 on Sunday.
There were 24 new deaths reported on Saturday in the province, 24 deaths reported on Sunday, and 24 reported today. There have been 7,935 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
The Niagara Region reported no new deaths over the weekend. In total, 387 people have died from the virus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 3,510 cases of #COVID19 and over 33,800 tests completed. Locally, there are 1,015 new cases in Toronto, 909 in Peel, 391 in York Region, 244 in Durham and 206 in Ottawa,” said Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier of Ontario and Minister of Health, on Twitter Monday morning.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 114,025 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Monday bringing the total number of vaccines administered across the country to more than 12,159,066. That means that 29.304 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine.
Over 69,308 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 4,696,211 administered across the province so far. That’s 32.849 per cent of the provincial population.
Niagara Health reported 2,578 new doses were administered as of Monday morning.
A total of 53,480 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes.

The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 162,988. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), that means about 36.390 per cent of the region’s residents have received at least one vaccination dose so far.

COVID cases remained above 100 on Saturday with 166 cases reported but dropped significantly on Saturday and Sunday with 32 and 24 cases reported.
Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. However, numbers surpassed the previous daily record of 196 reported on Jan. 8.
No new COVID-19 related deaths have been reported over the weekend. The COVID-19 death count measured since the start of the pandemic in the region is 387.
2,271 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 448,861 total cases, with 400,340 cases resolved. There are 2,271 cases in hospitals, with 877 in intensive care and 605 on ventilators. Niagara Region Public Health has confirmed that these numbers are accurate and not the result of a glitch.
Hospitalized cases decreased by 16, the number of those in intensive care increased by 59, and the number of patients on ventilators increased by 12 since Friday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 13,080 with 10,236 resolved. Of those cases, there are 2,457 active cases, up by 126 since Friday and 17 active outbreaks, same as Friday.
