Ontario is reporting 896 new COVID-19 cases today, a decrease from yesterday’s report of 934 cases.
Niagara Region reported 25 new cases today, the highest number of daily cases reported since June.
“Ontario is reporting 896 cases of #COVID19. Locally, there are 314 new cases in Toronto, 173 in Peel, 115 in York Region and 92 in Ottawa. There are 796 more resolved cases and over 41,000 tests completed,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher cases numbers include the Durham Region with 32 new cases, Halton Region with 37 new cases, Simcoe-Muskoka region with 22 new cases, and Hamilton with 14 cases. All other public health units reported 25 cases or less.
There were nine new deaths reported in Ontario today, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the province to 3,127. There were two new deaths reported today in Niagara, the third death in a month. In total, 71 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
The Niagara Region reported 25 cases today, the highest daily case report since June 3, when 40 cases were reported. Lately, daily case numbers have typically ranged from five to 15 over the last few weeks, but today’s report is well above that range and surpassed the spike of 23 cases seen on Sunday.
314 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 74,715 total cases, with 63,919 cases resolved. There are currently 314 cases in hospitals, with 75 in intensive care and 52 on ventilators.
Ontario continues to see a rise in COVID-19 cases in hospitals. Hospitalized cases descreased by eight, the number of those in intensive care decreased by two, and the number of those on ventilators remained the same since yesterday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region as of yesterday is now at 1,409 with 1,215 resolved. Of those cases, there are 123 active cases, increasing by 14 since yesterday and 10 active outbreaks, increasing by one.
