Ontario is reporting 998 new COVID-19 cases today, a slight increase from yesterday’s reports of 987. In Niagara Region 15 new cases were reported today, a six-case decrease from yesterday’s report of 21 cases.
“Ontario is reporting 998 cases of #COVID19. Locally, there are 350 new cases in Toronto, 269 in Peel and 71 in York Region. There are 948 more resolved cases and nearly 35,800 tests completed,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher cases numbers include Halton with 47 new cases, Ottawa with 45 new cases, and Hamilton with 37 new cases. All other public health units reported 40 cases or less.
There are 13 new deaths reported in Ontario today, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the province to 3,195. There were no new deaths reported in the Niagara Region today. In total, 74 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
The Niagara Region reported 21 new cases yesterday and 15 new cases today. On Tuesday, there were 38 new cases, becoming the new highest daily case reports since June 3, when 40 cases were reported.
381 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 79,692 total cases, with 69,137 cases resolved. There are currently 381 cases in hospitals, with 86 in intensive care and 48 on ventilators.
Ontario continues to see a rise in COVID-19 cases in hospitals. Hospitalized cases increased by 14, the number of those in intensive care increased by 11, and the number of those on ventilators increased by four since yesterday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region is now at 1,555 with 1,279 resolved. Of those cases, there are 202 active cases, increasing by four since yesterday and 18 active outbreaks, one of which being in the Niagara EMS, up one since yesterday.
