Suspect in Custody After Sexual Assault in Port Colborne

On March 8th, 2023, at 2:06pm Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) detectives assigned to the Sexual Assault Unit commenced an investigation into an alleged sexual assault that occurred on West Street near Clarence Street, in the City of Port Colborne.

Investigation has determined an adult female was walking in the area when she observed a black vehicle, later determined to be a 2014 Ford Focus, driving along West Street in a manner that she perceived to be suspicious.  Shortly thereafter, as the victim continued to walk, she was approached from behind by a male suspect and a sexual assault occurred.  The victim sustained minor physical injuries that did not require hospitalization.

Proceeding the assault, the suspect ran toward his vehicle parked near the intersection of West Street and Kent Street.  The victim alerted nearby bystanders who assisted by photographing the suspects’ vehicle before he was able to flee the area.  At 4:32pm sexual assault detectives with the assistance of uniform patrol officers located the suspect and placed him under arrest.

Lachlan GLASS (21 years) of Port Colborne is charged with the Criminal Code offence of:

• Sexual Assault

GLASS remains in police custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing later today (March 9th, 2023) via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharines.

Thus far in the investigation detectives believe this to have been an isolated incident and there is no known or ongoing threat to public safety.  The NRPS would like to thank the Port Colborne community members who assisted in this investigation.
