Three Persons Charged Following a Grimsby Disturbance Incident

On October 15, 2023, at 12:37pm 8 District (Grimsby / West Lincoln / Lincoln) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a fight / disturbance in the Town of Grimsby.

Officers attended to a plaza parking lot on Main Street West near Mountain Street.  Upon arrival officers located a 37-year-old man from Brantford with injuries consistent with an edged weapon. Officers provided first aid until Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics arrived. The 37-year-old man was transported to an out of region hospital for further care of serious (believed to be life altering) injuries.

The initial investigation determined that the 37-year-old man had arrived in the parking lot and damaged the exterior of a small business. A man in his 70s witnessed the damage and confronted him. The 37-year-old man with out provocation struck the older man.

Two men from the small business intervened, during which time the man from Brantford was injured.  The two men related the to small business have been arrested.

8 District detectives have been assigned to the investigation. They are being assisted by the NRPS Forensic Services Unit.

The 37-year-old Brantford man has been arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offences of:

Mischief Under $5000 Assault Utter Death Threats

A 39-year-old man from St. Catharines and the 44-year-old man from Grimsby have each been arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offence of:

Aggravated Assault

On October 15, 2023, the St. Catharines and Grimsby men were released from police custody on Form 10 Undertakings with future court dates.

On October 16, 2023, the Brantford man took part in an audio bail hearing from hospital. He was ordered held in custody.

The Victims Bill of Rights prohibits the NRPS from identifying victims of crime. As the persons charged in this incident are also victims their identities are not being released.
