Thursday Night RIDE Event in St. Catharines.

On Thursday July 27, 2023, uniform officers from the 1 District – St. Catharines / Thorold office of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) conducted a R.I.D.E. spot check in the City of St. Catharines.

The R.I.D.E. spot check took place at the intersection of Burleigh Hill Drive and Dalecrest Avenue. Officers from the NRPS Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) also assisted with the R.I.D.E. event.

Officers stopped over 250 vehicles and inquired if any of the drivers had consumed any alcohol or drugs earlier in the evening. In total, four drivers were required to provide a sample of their breath for analysis. There were no arrests.

Two Provincial Offence Notices (tickets) were issued to drivers throughout the evening for offences under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act (1x No Muffler, 1x Unnecessary Noise).

The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to reducing impaired driving offences through education and the apprehension of offender’s byway of enforcement programs such as R.I.D.E.

Impaired driving is still the leading criminal offence causing death in Canada.
