Niagara Regional Police detectives are continuing to investigate after they seized nearly a kilogram of suspected illegal drugs in St. Catharines.
On November 28, 2023, detectives from the 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) Street Crime Unit with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) were investigating the sale of illegal drugs in the City of St. Catharines.
The investigation led officers to a parked grey Chevrolet Sonic in the area of Welland Avenue and Tasker Street. As a result of the investigation detectives formed grounds to believe illegal drugs were in the car. The driver was subsequently arrested. The car and the driver were searched after his arrest.
Detectives located and seized the following:
400.9 grams of suspected cocaine (estimated street value $40,000) 490.3 grams of suspected red fentanyl (estimated street value $100,000) $4540 in Canadian currency
Tiroune Lloyd Hazell (26 yrs.) of Toronto (Scarborough) has been arrested and charged with criminal offences of:
Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Fentanyl) Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine) Possession of Proceeds of Crime Under $5000
Hazell was held in custody for a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on November 29, 2023. Hazell was released from custody with a future court date of January 11, 2024, at the Welch Courthouse.
