A Wainfleet man and a Welland man were arrested Monday for possession of illegal weapons and illegal drugs worth almost $50,000.

Detectives executed a search warrant and seized 87g of fentanyl, 121g of cocaine, 48g of crystal methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $49,730.

The investigation, initiated in November, involved the illegal sales of fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine from a residence near Highway 3 and Forks Road East in Wainfleet.

Officers found 250 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 28 rounds of .22 ammunition, a loaded revolver quick loader, eight rounds of 12 gauge, a bored-out starter pistol, three firearm suppressors, and a butterfly knife. Police also recovered $2,615 in cash, which they believe is from the proceeds of drug sales.

Preston M. Woods, 36, of Wainfleet, was arrested and charged with the 14 offences that included weapons charges, as well as charges of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking. He was also charged with five counts relating to failure to comply with a release order.

Daniel Bott, 43, of Welland, was arrested and charged with the three drug trafficking offences.

Bott was held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for Dec. 22 at the Robert S.K Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street, in St. Catharines.
