Update 1 – Bank Robberies Under Investigation by Detectives -ARREST

On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, members of the Toronto Police Service Hold Up Squad, in collaboration with a multi-jurisdictional investigation with Peel Regional Police Central Robbery Bureau, Halton Regional Police Robbery Unit, Hamilton Police Service B.E.A.R Unit, members from the Guelph Police Service and Niagara Regional Police Service Criminal Investigation Bureaus, were able to identify, locate and take the suspect, Alan HAAKSMA (52 years) into custody.

The suspect was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 10:00am at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre located at 2201 Finch Avenue West, Room 107.

On Friday, February 28, 2025, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 1 District and 2 District Criminal Investigation Bureaus arrested the suspect pertaining to the two incidents that occurred in Niagara Region on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.

 

Alan HAAKSMA (52 years) of Oakville was charged with the following offences:

       –      2 Counts of Robbery contrary to section 344(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

HAAKSMA remains in custody in an out of jurisdiction facility.

Bank Robberies Under Investigation by Detectives

On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at approximately 2:46 p.m. members of Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara-on-the-Lake) uniform patrol responded to TD Canada Trust located at 5900 Dorchester Road in the City of Niagara Falls for a Robbery call for service.

 Upon arrival, officers determined a lone male suspect entered the bank, brandished a knife and demanded cash from the employees. The suspect received an undisclosed amount of currency, and fled the area north bound on Dorchester Road towards Highway 420.

 A short time later, at approximately 3:16 p.m. members of the NRPS 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) uniform patrol responded to the Meridian Credit Union located at 531 Lake Street in the City of St. Catharines for a Robbery call for service.

 Upon arrival, officers determined a lone male suspect entered the bank, brandished a knife and demanded cash from the employees. The suspect received an undisclosed amount of currency and fled the area.

 Both robberies are believed to have been committed by the same suspect. The investigation has been assigned to detectives from the 1 District and 2 District Criminal Investigative Branch (CIB). Both incidents are being supported by detectives from the Forensic Services Unit.

 There were no injuries reported in either incident.
